We have lift off! Tags: LISNPN networking

A number of significant things have happened with LISNPN in recent weeks. Firstly we have more than 600 members now – that’s amazing for a start-up network aimed at a niche demographic, many of whom are online already with other networks, so thanks for signing up! There is a long forum discussion about a LISNPN e-publication of some sort, written for and by the members – take a look and add your own thoughts as to where we should go from here. And the new LISNPN interviews series has kicked off, via this blog – we’ve got some great subjects lined up, starting off with the new Vice Presidential candidates for CILIP (Edwina Smart and Phil Bradley); if there are names you’d like to see featured here, offer your opinion via the forum thread.

Most importantly of all, there have been the first face-to-face networking events. LISNPN was originally intended as an online-only network at first, branching out into events at a later date. But the great thing about a network like this is that members can make stuff happen for themselves, and thanks to Laura Woods and Bethan Ruddock who have done exactly that and instigated meet-ups in London and Manchester respectively. These were both a great success, and there are more planned – Bronagh McCrudden has just set up the first LISNPN event to happen outside England, taking place in Belfast on November 16th. If you’d like to set up a meet-up, just do it! Anyone can add an event to the Events page – just pick a venue and a date, and let people know – there must have been more than 20 people at the London meet-up I went to, it was amazing. It was great to meet fellow New Professionals and actually discuss the future of the profession in person.

We’ve now had over 700 downloads from the Resources area, and new stuff is added on a regular basis – check out our latest anonymous LIS Masters review (of City University) if you’re considering where to do your library qualification next year.

Our new sponsorship is about to start, so look out for some discrete ads on the left hand side of the LISNPN homepage.

In terms of wider coverage of the network, there was big article about LISNPN in Gazette recently, and a mention in Update. Various other organisations have been plugging us, including the SLA and LIS Research, and I’m aware of at least three different sessions at the recent Internet Librarian International conference doing so too! There’s also a new post about LISNPN on the CILIP Info and Advice blog, take a look.

Cheers,

Ned
